SubscriberI know there is sticky regarding this and I have read through all 18 pages and 687 posts about doing a Tow Pro install but I'm still confused. All I'm after, is if someone has it, is a simple guide for a MY15 D4. I'm mainly concerned about the need for (or not) diodes (part numbers) in the install. A pdf would be great.
Also the trailer with electric brakes I'm about to purchase has a 7 pin flat connector and I want to change that to a 12N plug. Is it just a matter of matching up the correct pinouts for the new plug and do I just ignore the 12S connector?
I've already installed the indicator resistors for trailer detection.
Thanks, Rod.

It's easier to install a 12 pin plug on your disco, then you can plug in 7 pin flat and 12 pin flat.. Osborne Park autospark sell good stainless brackets to mount these.. most trailers are 7 pin flat. The 7 pin round are the small type. I used to carry adapter's. But now I only have 1.
Hi Rod,
In the D4 Elect trailer brake wiring thread check out post #450, Strydes has posted a PDF summary. Diode is required Jaycar cat. ZR1041.
You can change 7 pin flat to 7 pin round by matching the correct pins or just get an adapter

SubscriberThanks for the info guys. Just wondering with the diode, do you solder and shrink wrap it and should it go near the break controller or near the wiring loom under the tail light?

I put my 6A diode (purchased from Jaycar) in the lower rear passenger side tail light/storage area (this is where most others seem to have done). There is enough room to solder the diode in place and shrink wrap the necessary wires. All seems to be working well.

SubscriberI am not an expertand if I remember correctly I used shrink wrap up to the sides of the fatter bit of the diode (covering the soldered joints and thereby giving electrical insulation. I then covered the wire/diode/wire section with cloth loom tape. I then placed this wire away from the rest of the loom as much as possible in order to facilitate any heat dissipation.

SubscriberThanks for the informative replies on this topic, they have certainly helped. I've decided to purchase this specific device from Redarc that does the job of the diodes. It's only $50 and is easier to install. Why use the REDARC encapsulated protection device | REDARC Electronics
