    Spare parts list

I just put an order in for a pile of bits and it occurs to me that a proportion of them will sit in a box and probably never be used. For example, I need 1 lower tailgate trim screw (PN:EYP500250) but they only come in a pack of 10. To save postage, I also tend to order stuff that I know I'm going to need, but don't have an immediate requirement for, such as I've ordered a coolant inlet (PN:1316063) which will sit in the box until such time as it's needed.

Gaskets, screws, nuts, filters, widgets... all stuff sitting in a box, some of which will never get used because of the requirement for less than the MOQ.

It just occurred to me that I'm very probably no orphan, and some form of shared resource list might be handy for when you've done something dumb (or the car has "failed to proceed") on a public holiday and someone close by might have the bit you need waiting for a "rainy day".

Having said that, I have no idea if it'd be useful, if anyone else stockpiles like I do or of there'd be any other interest. I thought I'd chuck it out there and see if anyone has any other ideas.

    The sentiment expressed is admirable.
Brad, I too (no doubt like a fair proportion here) am a similar default hoarder, and its not only restricted to LR or even D3/4 stuff.
The issue I see is how you would (or would you) create a data base, or would you just rely on the breakdown/SOS type posts to offer assistance.

In many cases you would just be happy to pass it forward for minimal cost bits you have been forced to accumulate, but for other "just in case" or somewhere in between purchases - where does it stop?

Don't know. I have a list of all the bits I have by part number, with a description and how many of each. I haven't looked at web based spreadsheets or databases, but I'm sure it can't be too hard.

Oh, that's easy. You need it now, just take it and replace it as soon as possible. For the little stuff that's just unwanted spares it's more of a "pay it forward" kind of thing. Just idle thought really.

Mate! I have trim clips by the hundred, screws, bolts, nuts, spare window switches, grommets, filters, hoses, wiring connectors, belt, alternator, cooling system fittings… you name it Spare parts list

Even have spare hydra-bushes and bar links.

Then there’s about the same for the 90, the D2 and the bikes!

Pays to be self stocked when dealers and suppliers are hours away.

Then of course there’s the fluids. I keep drums of the gear!

Living in darwin where just about everything is order in, I also have a stockpile of gear . My background of spending months at sea has also (expensively ) led me to, as standard practice have spare things like Alternator , starter motor , any major cooling parts , spare belts, tensioners, idlers , etc .

I guess you can never have everything , but if im ordering parts from the uk i usually buy a few extra's to help fill the box.

Its starting to become very noticable that many companies are cutting down of the parts they carry and rely on air freight , this is very noticable with companies as big as hasting deering the cat parts supplier , but am sure they are not the only ones.
