Need a code reader sorry mate. Could be inlet manifolds or a loose wire.

I’ve just spent a heap of $’s on fixing up the new purchase: high pressure fuel pump, suspension compressor, servicing, etc. And literally on the way home from picking it up the check engine light goes on. I looked up the forums and found various causes possible but I went with the simplest first - checked the caps. Took the fuel cap on and off, the same with the others in the engine bay. The brake cap turned an extra click. The engine light off on next start - Yay. But this morning it’s on again - boo.
Was it a coincidence it went off after mucking around with caps? Does the fuel filler cap work itself loose again?
Thoughts?

What he said^^^^^^^^
Without a code reader, you will be guessing, and wasting time.
Codes, we need codes man!
As far as i know none of the caps will trigger any form of engine check light.
Check back with whomever serviced it, they should have checked and road tested the vehicle before handing it back to you.
Yes was coincidence - restart resets the the system until it detects the fault again. Is there any fault message in the message display - usually not but check.
As said you need the codes to be read.

Thanks for the offer, I wasn’t getting notifications for this post for some reason so only just saw it. I think I need to buy a scanner!.
The caps was a total coincidence for sure. Wish life was that simple. I took it in and it is indeed the EGR valve so it’s in for a replacement.
