    Fitting a winch...

I am planning to fit a winch to my 2014 D4 with OEM bull bar. After much research and reading (thanks to all for contributions), I’ve decided that this is not a task for me, so looking for recommendations on who might be able to do this in the Canberra region. Does anyone have any experience in having a winch fitted, as above, and would you recommend the people who did it? Thanks in advance.

With the alloy bar you will need a winch cradle, what Ron posted above is likely what you need if it fits behind that bar.

Thanks. I am Looking at fitting a discrete mount, possibly the terrafirma, Devon 4x4 or something similar. I still don’t have confirmation about which will fit behind the OEM bull bar, which is why I want to talk with a good installer. No one on AULRO seems to have fitted a discrete winch behind a OEM bull bar. If there is someone out there who has and I just haven’t been able to find them, I would love to be pointed in the right direction. Thanks.

Your biggest challenge will be getting the hawse mounted solidly so that winching loads dont bend the factory bar.

By the time you have the extra fabrication, which will not meet ADRs and may well change crash pulse on the vehicle, and could trigger SRS incorrectly or impact insurance....

You'd be better off upgrading to a Winch Bar of your choosing.

Some of which are better than others. Ie some provide extra strength to the Bumper Bar because to fit the discreet mount you have to remove a metal bar which fits behind the plastic Bumper. Others (ie the cheapie ones) dont.

Except he has a factory bar. So the bumpers been destroyed.

A discreet mount will fit behind, but the fairlead/hawse will need to have something to mount to beyond the leading edge of the bar to prevent rubbing.

I think this is going to present a problem.

Thanks for that warning. Seems to have been done before, at least in NZ (The Land Rover 2014 Discovery 4 Extreme Is Personalized To YOU | Riding The Rubicon Trail Of Life) I just can’t see from this article how they might have addressed the issues that you have raised Tombie. Noting that they went to the trouble of having the Aus bar certified in NZ, assume they they did the same for the overall setup. Would welcome people’s thoughts as I would prefer not to have to replace the current OEM bar with an expensive new one. Thanks.
