Pressure does not decrease when venting gallery

Pretty sure all the compressed ‘wet’ air runs through the desiccant before exiting to the storage tank and not just the fart.

This also explains why the lid is prone to cracking between the outlet pipes as the desiccant chamber is under pressure.

Edit: (had to check my memory) there definitely is a solenoid fart valve on the compressor. All air flow passes through the desiccant being HP supply to the reservoir or relief via the solenoid. Explained below although seems air is travelling both ways through the cap.

The cap has two pipes connections although one is a simple return to the crankcase.

When you service the filter plates below the desiccant they show dirt on one side.

Definitely rebuild the Hitachi.

Trying to find the correct part number for the rear right height sensor which is the only error code coming up now, so trying to find a replacement on ebay or somewhere - can someone confirm whether they are a 3pin or 6pin, and who you bought from. There seems to be none locally and do not really want to purchase from o/s due to delays in arriving. thanks in advance

The desiccant breaking down and going through the system seems to me to be an average design. I have recently had a thought to run a desiccant filter in the compressor air inlet and totally remove it from the compressor itself. This could potentially eliminate issues of the dust going through the solenoids. Checking desiccant condition would be easy and replacing it could be a lot easier

I can see where you are going with this but you would also have to pipe the compressor exhaust back through the desiccant to remove water from the desiccant. The current system does this. If you do not have this the dessicant will quickly become saturated and clog - probably in days or weeks.

While changing desiccant will be easier so hopefully if done before the desicant breaks down, if it is not done then the desiccant dust will still go through the system as it does now - noting the current system has filters to prevent this and it works well until the desiccant has broken down.

I cannot see why LR did not have the compressor design modified to include a screw on desiccant cannister that is a service item and say listed for every second service - too easy.

so i have ordered the right rear height sensor brand new, expecting delivery by Weds. I did have a look underneath and looks to be a 3pin (3wires coming in/out) of the height sensor. Left or Right not handed so can use either end. Re checked my icarsoft which again has said its the right rear sensor that's causing error codes. my code reader cannot calibrate the height sensor so will try to fit and see what happens. hopefully this will end the error codes popping up atm.

That is doable, and the filter I have in mind also contains a 3 micron filter so that will limit the dust that can go through the system

Stauff do a hydraulic tank screw on your r that should have the capacity to supply the compressor. In a clear plastic housing and the beads change colour once worn out.

I service mine every 100,000ks and have never had an issue. Touch wood. They are a pretty good design. A screw on filter like a highway truck wabco would have been perfect but.

The thing with the desiccant though is it is far more effective under pressure. The pressure increase forces the moisture to condense which then gets stripped by the desiccant. When you try and dry the air at the compressor inlet it’s considerably less effective. Same reason refrigerated dryers go at the compressor outlet rather than inlet. It’d be a lot easier building them to only have to handle air at atmospheric pressure.

so the new replacement right rear sensor arrived today and was quickly fitted, all error codes (mainly right rear sensor) deleted and then the problem remains, crap... must of fixed something, no error codes on the test drive but still having the car go into 'extended suspension' mode soon after lowering to access height - raises by itself.

so my next observation and then subsequent theory was when i braked as the car was in 'access height' braking caused the above notification and subsequent raising of the suspension, so just to be sure have ordered a new brake switch at $36 can't hurt. I doubt i should get the right rear sensor error on icarsoft again but time will tell. brake switch is an easy and cheap fix so will see if that changes anything at all. getting desperate to sort this out. drives well no error codes yet but just doesn't like to be in access height for long at all.
