I use my scissor jack to keep tension on the cable when not putting the spare back in.

Put some weight on it and wind back out - more often that not the cable has just gone over the top of itself and on released will wind back in - never, ever force it as that will kill it.

    It’s very clean under there.

Didn't put the spare back up under when I had the flat. It seems that will mess up the whole winch.

Shall now try 4wd Industries at Rutherford, NSW for their advertised one at $350 - will ring first though to check with them. Although might try to crack the old one open to see if it is fixable by me. From the other threads it seems it can be.

    Any more advice appreciated.
Yeah that's what happened to me to mate, ages ago. I might put a chain winch in soon. The 255/55/20's are to big for in there and a real pain to get up.

That car is cleaner underneath than the outside or inside of mine. Obviously not being used for what it's supposedly designed for. No wonder he's having trouble with the spare winch... no dirt.

Much the same as ours does except for the surfing..... always a deep clean if it's been anywhere near the water and as I have an RWC fitted the winch is not a problem either. Although I'm thinking of going back to standard for it's sale next year to satisfy the buyers who get frightened by the thought of an off road vehicle actually having been off road....
