I hope you did your research before acquiring your vehicle. Around 2% failure of these engines. Very expensive to fix.

D4 3.0 SDV6 catastrophic failure
hi all so recently i got hold of a discovery 4 3.0 litre the only problem was that the engine will not turn over. Someone told the previous owner that the engine was seized and it was possibly a crankshaft or big end bearings, however i have found that the engine will turn about 90degrees so now i have my doubts. I as intending to remove the sump and inspect but that looks a pretty serious so i was wondering if anyone could offer any information regarding this. Thanks.![]()

Almost guaranteed you have a snapped crank, they snap at no.2 journal so the front will rotate but nothing else.
I hope it was very cheap.

What did you pay for this plum is the key question here.
You can buy the workshop manual online from the aulro website. Should have what you want in it. I believe you need to pull the front diff to get the sump off. I was thinking about doing a bearing roll in my 3.0L.
If your worried about a crank, pull the starter out so you can see the flywheel. Then rotate the front balancer. Hopefully you don't see any free play between the two. Are you turning it from the front or rear at the moment
As a 3L owner I like to be optimistic. I love a good success story.. Hopefully he doesn't need that book. I feel he will need more then my optimism but.
