TDV6 engine fail. How common? How many kms.

Definitely D4 2.7,any year,didnt have the issue,but the later V6 3.0L engine still had the rare issue,some failed in D5,one was actually a member on here.

Yep.
I'd be quite happy with a 2.7; one of my boys had a 2008 D3 HSE and it drove beautifully and power was not a problem. I think that with or without a remap the 2.7 would be every bit as good as a 3.0.
But in my opinion the 'deal breaker' is the 8 speed auto only available with the 3.0, it is sooo nice.

Having tried both, I'll have to agree - the 8 speed is another quantum leap forward!

Fully agree, 8spd 3.0l any day. I'm still "stuck" with my poverty 6spd 3.0....

I think this is just a luck of the draw.

My D3 with the 2.7. Engine spun a bearing cap at 84,000 KM , just outside warranty
New engine is “touch wood”. Is still going strong 12 years later

I do regularly 6000km change oil and filter

My forgetory is better than my memory these days, but I 'thought' I'd seen a report where the Ford version had a redesigned crankshaft because the Ford engineers were not impressed with the LR version... I bow to those with more understanding on this issue...

Ford redesigned the crankshaft for its F150 version. Ford made various other changes to the engine such as the inlet manifolds.

The base long engine is not a LR engine - they are all PSA - Ford engines. The design issue is with Ford but LR has to wear it as the Ford engine is in their vehicles.

Yes for use in Ford US products the 3.0 has larger journals in the crankshaft - so essentially a beefier crank. Not heard much of its reliability but I guess not hearing anything is a good sign that this fixed the issue.
