Having done a search through here on windscreen replacements there's post after post about replacing with genuine windscreens (Pilkington Opticool) and how to get your insurance company to do so. There's a number of posts about the issues that current D3/4 owners had with non-genuine Windscreens in their D2's. But I've only found two posts from someone who actually went the non-genuine route which read:

Interested to hear anyone elses experiences of non-genuine front windscreen replacements.

Reopening this thread as I've just "done" a windscreen caused by an inconsiderate oncoming driver on an unsealed road up the NE Coast. From one Hobart D4 owner to another, did you settle on a non -genuine screen and if so who replaced it? I am with RACT and have yet to contact them to find out what their policy is re genuine/non genuine windscreens. After reading all comments I'll order the genuine clips from the local dealer and give them to the installer so as to make sure they get replaced first time correctly. Thanks,

Ask the dealer who they use. I did and their recommended guys were brilliant. Knew the car and how to do the job properly. I, too bought the clips and also the windscreen from the dealer and submitted the claim to RACV who paid it in full, even though they would only authorise an aftermarket screen themselves.

    Non-Genuine Windscreen Replacement

    Hi all

My windscreen was replaced by O'Brien following instructions from my insurance company. After few weeks I found out two big issues: glue leaks out from the mirror box. I cleaned 7 times but still leaking. The sensor for the windscreen wipers is located in front of the mirror, glued to the windscreen, that switches the wipers on and off and adjust the speed, but doesn't work like before: it continues wiping even no rain when I turn it to AUTO. It doesn't change speed when manually turn speed up or down. I am not sure whether it is a windscreen from discovery 3 or not. Or its sensor failed to sense amount of rain on windscreen correctly. How much for a sensor? Where can I buy it? Is it easy to replace it?
    Thanks guys

First to replace the screen the internal decorative trim on each side of the screen need to be removed and close inspection reveals the plastic push clips should have a small rubber washer which sits between the back of the clip and the door pillar, which I did not notice until some months later when it started raining water ended up in the passenger foot well. The window replacement company attended to rectify by replacing the whole window, to which I declined and suggested we replace the clips, job solved. Second, the sensor for the windscreen wipers is located in front of the mirror, glued to the windscreen, to switch the wipers on and off and adjust the speed. The windscreen replacement I found had a faulty sensor, or rather was not attached properly, as an air bubble is very apparent on close inspection. This means the sensor works some of the time but not always. So I am waiting for the stone clip to allow me to replace again. Both issues can be checked by attention to detail.

I have had two windscreens replaced by O'Briens in Canberra - all OEM screens and they know the drill.

The glue should not be oozing out as it goes off completely within a few hours. If the sensor is not working as it should, take it back and have them fix it - O'Briens has a warranty on workmanship etc - even if they didn't they should fix.
