    D4 Snorkel Question

I'm about to bite the bullet and fit one myself.
I have ordered a set of a pillar clips (genuine) and bought a set of cobolt drills to make holes in the hardened steel underneath.

Silly Question - I'd assume the original tube running from the air filter box back to the inlet vent near the drivers door is not suitable for instance to get wet (heaven forbid, and yes the kit does come with a concertina replacement).

Anyone happen to have any specific info on the difference/s?

The original "tubing" has a thin plastic sleeve outter, with fibrous inner lining which I believe is to capture fuel vapour. I have mine sitting int garage - not sure what I am hoping to ever do with it!

The one that comes with snorkels has rigid ducting.

    Cheers,
    Rob

That’s about it. The factory one is porous… and smaller diameter.

If you need any tips on the install let me know.

Drilling into the A pillar is fun.

Started on the hardened steel part in the A pillar first (after dropping one of the plug removal tools down between the engine bay and the front wheel arch trim) - will be able to rescue it when I finally get to tightening bolts.

So far, and using drilling oil and drilling at low to medium speed, have worn out/broken 2 x 2mm Ryobi cobalts, and then after visiting the Just Tools store, add 2 x Sutton HD 2.5mm Cobalt HHS. I reckon I'm about a an average of a 1/4 the way through the 5 rivet holes, if that much.

Anyone know of any better drill bits? Money no object at this point (Suttons were $9 each and the Ryobi about $3).

    Plasma or Oxy torch?

But seriously, are you using a cutting fluid? Maybe try thay and reducing the cutting speed?

Yep… go buy a good quality impact bit or 2 and use an impact driver.

    4 holes in 5 min.

I taped some protection on the windscreen so I couldn’t slip and crack it whilst working next to it.

Centre punched the locations and then just impacted the holes in with the impact gun and bit.

    Came up a treat.

You may want 2 bits, mine did it in 1 but it won’t drill much more until it sharpen it again.

When you say "impact gun" do you mean a drill driver or the drill with the vibration like mode that some people call "impact"?
