    Onboard Air compressor

    Hi there,

Being fed up with carrying around the compressor for pumping tyres, I am looking to install an onboard air compressor. Would like to install in the engine bay, perhaps reverse side of battery.

however, would like to have air outlet in the rear cargo with switch. Switch is easy enough but has anyone run a steel braided hose from engine to rear?

Alternatively, I could install in the plastic compartments in the rear cargo but not sure how to get in there to mount the bracket securely. Anyone done anything like this? Pics? Ideas welcome.

I'm about to install one of these TJM Pro Series Air Compressor Single | AIR COMPRESSORS | COMPRESSORS | TJM 4X4 Equipped in the passenger rear compartment soon and will post a guide on how I did it as soon as I figure out how to do it. The mounting bracket will be the hardest part.

g’day Rod, that’s a great unit. Reading a bit about small air compressors getting hot. Do you think it’s ok around the plastic in the cargo area?

I'm told by TJM it won't be a problem as the unit has an inbuilt fan and they say you can place your hand on it during operation. Time will tell but I'm going to somehow place it centrally in the cavity so it has the best air circulation anyway, may even cut a vent into the plastic cover.

Considering they also come mounted in plastic carry boxes it shouldn’t be a problem.

I wouldn’t cut the trim cover when you can just drop the cover off if using for extended timeframes.

I put mine behind the rear lh panel, I have rear AC so it's a tight fit.
