SupporterI was in a discussion on reddit about 70 series Landcruisers and a bloke popped up and said that Discos need to have the body lifted off the chassis to change the alternator. I know for a fact it ain't true for a Disco 2 because I certainly didn't when I swapped out my alternator. He came back and told me he "believes it's the TDV6". I had a quick trawl through here and couldn't see any mention of it. TDV6 Alternator Replacement. This thread certainly didn't seem to require such extreme measures. Any further info or was I right to call BS.

SupporterI did it the other day following these instructions and found it pretty easy. Not as easy as a simpler, older engine perhaps, but I haven't worked on cars in years and I was able to sort it out in a couple of hours. The ratchet spanner certainly made it a much easier job

SupporterHa ha, if I, of very little tools, space and experience can change the alternator under my carport it is certainly not a body off job.
Granted, it took me 3 hours as I don't have a tool to remove the fan and (at the time) I had no ratchet 13mm spanner (bought one next pay) it was actually a straight forward swap. I won't say it was easy, but it was done with no special tools.
Oh dear…. It’s a simple job on a TDV6. Just an hour or two.
Go back and ask old mate LC how it goes doing a starter motor on the V8
