It's not an easy job thats for sure. Very fiddly and hard to get at without tri-articulated arms and the twin turbo model is the hardest to work on. I've just finished doing my SDV6 and it was a solid two days job - my 4.2 Patrol can be done in 2 hours easily. Worst part is fitting everything back in and avoiding trapping the positive lead to the alternator with the intercooler bracket. Suggest bending the offending spare tab on the bracket back by about 60deg to fix this design defect. Incidentally the smell of the fried electrical cable was the reason I changed so I now have a perfectly good Denso alternator if anyone wants to put in a bid for it!
