    Or like mine the tensioner mount broke before the first belt change, I had the new pump ready to fit but missed by about a week.

    That's pretty unusual I have to say, they don't usually break until they've had the bolt undone and done back up with a belt change.

    Sounds same scenario as what happened to Outback Discovery some time after the timing belt change without changing the early pump is the primary failure mode. Probably with a good heave on the bolt. The spec of 23nm feels incredibly light. Best wishes for a good outcome.

    After a lot of research this morning the best two options are a new motor from TRS for $9900 or an upgraded (crankshaft, oil pump & belts) low-ks used engine from Aztec in Perth for $6500. TRS are here in Sth Aus so single freight of 370ks. Aztec engine is exchange so two lots of 2500ks freight. Both options would entail getting the local mechanic to install, probably after xmas.

    So is it worth the extra roughly $2500 for a new engine?

    Note that its really a body off job to R&R the engine and best done by a workshop that has such experience otherwise the time taken can easily become excessive, where hours become days. While the body is off, change any normally hard to access coolant hoses.

    At least Hawker is a nice town, and the Teagues will look after you as much as they can - good country hospitality.
    As others have suggested, Triumph Rover Spares in Lonsdale would be the first port of call. Failing them, Sovereign Motors in Kent Town.
    There is also PCB Land Rovers but he is so booked up, its very unlikely he could help.
    If you go with TRS, there is a caravan park at Brighton, about 10km away, or a big park at Marion maybe 12km away.
    We live 10km from TRS, so I do know the geography.

    Thank you Alan, that is very useful info. Buying the new engine from TRS and getting sovereign to install sounds like a viable option. I will call them on Monday to get a rough price.
