Need some advice please.
I know there are several broken motor threads but I am far from home (Brisbane) and have no idea of Sth Aus suppliers.
I left Brisbane 12 days ago on a lap of Oz towing a 3 tonne caravan. I had just left Quorn SA and was heading to Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges when the engine decided that it didn't want to play anymore. I'm with racq so car and van were towed to Hawker about 20ks away. Mechanic agreed that cactus would be the best description as it seems the timing belt has let go.
So I have no real option other than to replace the motor. My thinking at the moment is that perhaps it would be better to get the car to Adelaide to get it fixed there, or the other possibility is get a replacement engine shipped up and replaced by a mechanic here. I have always done my own mechanical work but replacing a D3 engine in a caravan park somehow doesn't seem like a good idea
So what I probably should have asked up front is where can I get an engine in SA? Would be just as happy with a Ford Terry motor if that is doable.
With xmas fast approaching it looks like I will be a Sth Aussie person for the next couple of months.
Cheers

So I take it you did not upgrade the oil pump when the cam belt was done some time back - have you confirmed the cam belt tensioner on top of the oil pump failed or was it the belt itself that failed.
In some circumstances the engine can be rebuilt but in some not. I guess you need a fix as soon as possible and yes, as a long engine and some of your ancillaries a Territory engine can be used. TR Spares are in Adelaide a source for parts.

It only happened around noon today so the only analysis I have been doing is what colour is the bottom of a beer can
Tomorrow I will have a look but I am in a caravan park so I won't be pulling the engine apart to have a look, which is really frustrating.
And thank for your recommendation, I will contact them on Monday

I bought the car with 173K on the clock from a car yard. While the rest of the service history was there they hadn't done the 168k service so I said do that service and I will buy it. Which they supposedly did.
After watching LR Time and others recently I was determined to see if the oil pump was was AC or AE. Haha too late. I will tell you when the dead engine is removed. If I knew then what I know now I would have got them to replace the oil pump regardless. the things you learn.......
