I was wondering when the D4's would start to deteriorate. Past experience with multiple Classic, P38 and D2s suggest you just have to bight the bullet and get it professionally re-lined. I've always removed and refitted the liner myself, leaving the trimmer to do what he's best at.
Mind you, transporting the liner to/from the trimmer can be a bit tricky. Sometimes you can sort of temporarily fit it. Some trimmers will pick up and deliver or perhaps you can borrow a van.
