Does anyone know the dimensions of the rod and the hook at the end?

I'm reading all this from the Land Rover 3 manual supplied by AULRD.

I'll wait, but just getting ready.
No need to remove anything apart from the trim pieces immediately in front of the dash and either side , there are 2 large and 2 small torx screws, remove the 2 large and get something like a trim tool at the top of the cluster and lever down and it will come forward.
Then twist slightly and pull it out, cable is long enough to get the cluster out then disconnect the cable which has a camlock type lever lock.

This link from the Powerful Uk website shows the removal of a D3 steering wheel and the tool (not the dimensions though). Hope its of some use. They have them for sale too, so the product pictures may also be of use if you were wanting to fabricate your own.

You don't need to remove the wheel, removed it on a mates D3 last Friday. Remove the column shroud if you have trouble but even that's not necessary.

If you do need to remove the wheel, I made an airbag removal "tool" by bending a tight hook that fit through the slot out of 1.6mm TIG rod.

You have to remove that trim directly in front of the dash, which entails removing the under column panel and undoing the 4 screws.

For the life of me the last two days looking all through my workshop as I'm sure I had a D3 cluster, alas no such luck.

It looks like it has the same eeprom as a D4, for the sake of trying if you can get another IP from a wreckers cheap, bring them both 2 me and I will try to sort it.

Try Maddington auto wreckers, carole st maddington i think, they always have a few d2 / d3

Thank for the info, your close by.
I'm sure I have to find one with less klm on the clock, as you can add to the IP but you can't subtract. At 150.000 in don't like my chances.
