New to me D3! Audio questions

Hello! Bought myself a ‘09 D3 SE over the weekend, pretty immaculate and low kms.
Imgur: The magic of the Internet

I just have some questions regarding the audio system and upgrading it to CarPlay. I have the HK system with the amp under the seat. And IÂ’ve found the adapter kits for the fiber optic amp ($850 seems pretty pricey though)

So IÂ’ve read a lot about this and have seen some varying answers and ways to upgrade. Do I lose the in dash clock if I remove the stock headunit? And IÂ’ve also read things about bypassing the amp? Not sure if the bypass was from a different kind of kit.

Ideally I want it to have as stock functions as possible (steering controls) and look like itÂ’s meant to be there. Do you guys have examples of what you have done?

I put this in : Online Store | main

I've been most pleased with it. Some pics of the install over here : DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - NaviPlus unit in D3 HSE?
MY08 D3 - The Antichrist - "Permagrimace". Turn the key and play the "will it get me home again" lottery.

That looks like a great option! I however don’t have the factory NAV screen to connect it to. I’ve only got the standard button style stereo, but with the HK amp and speakers.

I would look at the aliexpress units that fit in place of the sat nav screen and then connect to the aux input, otherwise you will need that expensive harness kit.

Then you have two radios in the car - the new top one and the old bottom one. Seems pointless to me.

Surely there is one that just replaces the original radio and you get to keep your cubby at the top.

There are a lot of options on aliexpress some that seem to just clip over the cubby. Have you fitted one lonerangie?

But yes. Ideally was hoping for one to fit into where the factory radio is without too many losing functions (like the clock in the dash).

Yes you lose the clock in the dash but then most radios have a clock.

However the clock in the dash still displays etc but not the right time - you can disconnect power from the vehicle and reconnect at midnight and the clock is then on time.

Not pointless, a lot cheaper than replacing the HK system and you keep the CD player and gain bluetooth, GPS etc.

No the clock doesn't display at all just 4 dashes.
