For what its worth, I've stuck with the standard 19 inch rims on my 2016 D4 and recently fitted the new version Pirelli AT plus, and am very happy with them. Very grippy on bitumen and so far as good as most other offerings on gravel. Haven't really been in any sand yet.

Like Gavin I stayed with the 19s as I couldn't see the point of chucking good rims out when the availability of tyres in that size was improving. I've used Maxxis 980s for about 4 years and they've been good enough for what I do which has included some dirt road and bush tracks but no hard core stuff.

I moved to tuffants from original 20" rims. I think if I had 19s to start I wouldn't have bothered changing size. The cost of 20" AT tyres were significantly higher than 18" so it factored in as a long term advantage to change.

I'm running Yokohama Geolander ATs, have been good so far (and quiet). Scorpions also looked good but were not available at the time.

If you spend more time on dirt roads then 18's offer a much better range of sizes than 19's, if its mostly highway with occasional dirt then 19's will be fine.

I stayed on 19" as couldn't justify the cost of going to 18's and with my driving probably wouldn't need them anyway. (95% on road)

Am quite happy with the Goodyear Duratracs which are very good under all conditions and have done 54,000 klms and possibly will get to 58 maybe 60,000 klms.

Will buy again or perhaps Pirelli's, depending on prices.

My Duratracs have been great tyres in 19”

I replaced the 20" rims on my L322 with 19" D4 rims fitted with 255/60R19 GG AT3 tyres (LI 113) to get sidewall height the same as 255/60R18 as no 18" fit over mine's brakes without spacers which are illegal.

Very timely thread, I too am in the process getting near to needing to replace my tyres and have been looking at going down the tuffant path but after reading this thread I’ll do a bit more research as when I did have a look a while back at what was available in 19’s it was pretty limited. Thanks
