SubscriberLast Tuesday O'Brien Windscreens replaced the front screen.
I supplied the Genuine LR retaining clips for the "A" pillar shrouds so as to ensure they got replaced.
The workmanship appeared to be ok.
Today, Sunday, I used the car for the first time since having it done and as there was some heavy dew on the screen I operated the wipers.
The drivers side wiper arm moved about 50 mm....
I'll see them tomorrow.
Can anyone tell me if they have splines or just a taper with the nut?
If splines, I am concerned they are now damaged and need to raise this point with them tomorrow morning.
I don't want to touch it until they see it.
Thanks.

My left hand wiper nearly fell off on the freeway during a heavy downpour and would have done if it wasn't trapped by the bonnet. O'Briens windscreens does it again.
I fixed it myself by refitting and tightening the holding nut down correctly.
Why such a simple low skill job can't be done better even by these morons I don't know as I had probs before with a company in Malaga (name forgotten) who ripped the trims off with no thought whatsoever about damage to the holding things.
AlanH.
Same here, wipers were fine, that was probably luck, but both trims flew off.
SWMBO had to go somewhere before i was home to check it.
They were pretty quick to get some new ones, and the clips, and fit them.
And i specifically asked when logging the job if they had done any D4's.
Yes was their answer, lots of them.
FFS.
On another note the same O'Briens branch have done many of our work vans and utes,no issues.

SubscriberFurther to this windscreen replacement, I drove the car today at 110 kph and with a fairly strong headwind.
I haven't used it much since having the new screen.
Very irritating wind noise from driver's side top of screen.
Got out and "wobbled" the black shroud on the "A" pillar. The passenger's side is firm and tight.
Called into WO'B on the way home, they are 15 mins from me, and showed them.
Would you believe it is basically my problem because I supplied the Genuine LR retaining clips and asked them to be used rather than those used by them?
Yes but why is the LHS ok as that also has the Genuine clips I ask?
Not their problem.
My wife commented on the rudeness of the employee.
Rang the RACT Insurance and explained the situation.
Am awaiting a call from an Assessor.

It's amazing how many doing these jobs blame the car owner when they stuff up. No responsibility at all these days.

						SubscriberOk, this is getting interesting.
RACT insurance contacted me and gave me permission to take it to another windscreen installer to fix the RH shroud.
I pay and they reimburse me.
So I took it to the fella who does all the L/Rover 'screens for the Hobart Dealer and after a 5 minute inspection he explained the following:
1. The 'screen has been installed approx 10mm lower than it should be and a gap is evident at top of 'screen and seal.
2. It has been installed 'wonky' and the top gap is approx 8mm wider on driver's side than passenger's side.
Apparently, under the "A" pillar shrouds is a fairly fragile steel 'membrane' (for want of a better word) which the shroud retaining fasteners attach.
If you are not careful or you are incompetent this 'membrane' will get damaged and the fasteners can't retain the shroud properly.
That is why some installers glue the shrouds.... because they have damaged the membrane!
The 'screen will have to be removed (which will very likely break it) and re-positioned correctly.
Whatever is causing the loose shroud has to be sorted.
I asked him to order every conceivable item he thinks may be necessary and we'll go from there.
I've sent RACT an email advising them that it is not now going to be the inexpensive fix we had assumed, and invited them to send their Assessor to inspect and confirm the problem so there is no misunderstanding when I give them a bill for possibly several thousand dollars.....
I also suggested they may like to take photos in the event they decide not to pay their O'Brien Windscreen account for the first job....
Presumably (hopefully) not all O'BW branches are as incompetent as this particular one appears to be with Disco's, however, "be warned".

Not sure what they are referring to (I've had the covers off so many times now) - there is a metal fram, it has holes in it - if you remove the cover and the trim clip twists the hole slightly -all you do is gently tap it flat again with a soft faced hammer.
No "membranes" or fancy crap in there - its simply clips with foam gaskets into round holes along the pillar.
If they have been paid they can" afford" to be rude, or so they think.I have a feeling they have reorganised themselves so who can say?
My last experience with them was certainly not of the quality of some years ago, then, the bloke couldn't do enough for me & that was just for an internal Mirror which fell off after a D1 Screen Replacement.
