The old one was OEX and had worked well - it is Taiwanese and happy to get that one again.

The one I got this time was Joy something - no indication where it is made but i assume is a no name knockoff from China - all made in the same factory and different brand names put on. What annoyed me with my current seller is that the supplier cannot even tell me what brand is coming. As I have got the change round down pat - I have made it clear that I will be returning the new one for a refund if it plays up.

Likewise I wanted a new belt and no retailers locally had one so went to a LR independent - $120 for a $40 belt elsewhere, but when you are in a hurry .............

Just to wrap this up - got the replacement alternator this afternoon - all connected up and running with no issues - so the other alternator was faulty. The new one is also chinese because I cannot get Denso through this seller - this one is sold in Australia as JAS Oceania but seems a bit more professional as it even comes with its test report - if I can believe that.

We see how it goes. Seller annoyed me as each time I visited with comments about poor Land Rover electrics - put them in place with my comment that LR Systems are smart enough to tell me when they have sold me faulty chinese crap.

I still have the original Denso that was on the engine and I can buy replacement rectifiers etc but if I were to rebuild it I would also want to replace its bearings. Has anyone replaced these and what are the issues - I assume suitable bearings would be available local industrial suppliers.

Thanks for all the input - greatly appreciated.

    Garry

That sucks. It’s so hard to troubleshoot things when you get a faulty replacement because you question the original diagnosis. Great work.

Thanks - yes I was concerned the car's systems might have developed a fault.

Weirdly I have sourced a few alternators from Kogan with reasonably successful outcomes, particularly oddball stuff like one with a vacuum pump on the back for a SD33 Nissan motor.
