I have not heard many bad reports on the 4.0l petrol D3's, like any other ice, they need maintenance, and timing chains is just one of them.
I loved my D4, but if I had the time again, I'd buy the SCV6, a rare animal, but would save me a lot of grief and diesel oil stains on my garage floor.

SupporterI was in your shoes 2.5 years ago, wife was upgrading from D2 v8 to D3.
I considered it all and told her to get a lower km D3 on Petrol. I just wanted less issues, I have diesels and they are not for her .
She did and it does use 15 L per 100 km but overall its been good, she only drives locally, mum's taxi.
We bought it with 120 000 km now its got 136 000 km
One door lock got stuffed, one air shocker started leaking ( that's one thing I don't like on new ones, the air suspension) and lower control arms had to be replaced.
I guess these are all common things with these.
Only the other day I noticed the idle pulley needs replacing other than that a solid car and a much better choice compared to many other range rovers...
