I'm not interested in DIY on this - I dare say reinstalling without creasing or otherwise stuffing up the new material is worth paying the expert to do!
Agree - I want a good job done, and whilst I always like to save some $$'s, I'm not sure this is the job to do it on.
The person I spoke to (for $1100) definitely seemed familiar with D4's, and some of the challenges (v wide, hard to get in/out, removal challenges) - which gives me confidence of a better result.

I rang my local motor trimmer, and he flat out refused to look at it/quote. He'd tried one or two, and for him, it just isn't worth it. It was good to get an honest opinion - and makes me want to go with someone who knows what they're doing...

Then there's all the wiring that is affixed to the top of the roof lining. All this will be very expensive unless you can do it yourself, but then you have the problem of getting the roof lining to the upholsterer!
Mind you, pulling the whole interior apart gives you the opportunity to give it a really good clean (and check drain tubes if you have a sunroof) and wire up any accessories you may have been planning.
I was wondering how long the roof lining will last. Yours is the first I've heard of, so I guess 14 years or so may be the standard.
Is the D4 headlining and pillars any different to the D3? I went to the bloke that the Darwin Landy mech recommended and when I booked it in the bloke said 'about $700'. When I collected in it the second week of January 2023 I paid $660. Perhaps the OP needs to drive up for a holiday...

Dunno. Never looked at a D3. But I would think they'd be identical. $660 sounds more than reasonable to me to remove, repair and refit the headlining. Mind you, $1,100 sounds reasonable to me, too. Personally, I'd do the remove/refit myself and get my bloke to collect/return the headlining in his van. But that's just me. I prefer to work on my own car as much as possible. Mind you, if something goes wrong, I lose all credibility as I have no one else to blame! Not that anything ever goes wrong...

    Well, it's a D4, so I assume it's better!

Not sure $500 will cover the fuel costs - much as we'd love to... I hear you don't have any space left at home these days!

Yes the fuel might be a tad over the $500...

Still have a couple of spare bedrooms and 5 acres for a camper trailer to use

That’s a bargain! It took me an easy hour to get mine out yesterday, and good 30 minutes to clean it off, plus quality high temp glues are $100, plus fabric around $100 and reinstallation. Even considering they can buy the components cheaper, it’s not a lot of money for the effort. I wouldn’t do it for that.

    Headlining replacement completed

I had mine done about a month ago - great result, looks excellent, all completed for $440. As mentioned, I think this is a bargain!
Really happy with the end result.

Holy Crap! That's half what I paid!! On the other hand, my philosophy is as long as the vendor makes a buck and the client is happy with the price, everyone wins. Still, less than $500 sounds like a steal.
