Same. And I’ve owned them a long time. I have seen pitted ones, but not on my cars.

No, the old alloy thermostat housings were sacrificial. They were effectively the anode for the cooling system and designed to be replaced in preference to the other metal parts the coolant was exposed to.

With the TDV6 they just made the entire engine the sacrificial bit! Alloy coolant outlet for TDV6

But any Ford I ever owned* changing the housing was a 15 minute job. TDV6 not so much.

*Admittedly all Falcons bar one Cortina.

Except six cylinder Falcons had alloy heads from the XD update in 1980. Of course, there are some who would say the entire head was sacrificial on the XD.....

But my 1968 FIAT ( and many subsequent models ) also had an alloy head. With correct coolant corrosion wasn't an issue.

The "alloy head" badge, on the XE, always amused me, I was waiting for the model bearing a "rubber tyres" badge.

Might have had an alloy head, but it still had an iron block. The pot metal they cast the thermostat housings out of had a high zinc content which protected both the head and the block. I tried to TIG one once as an experiment. It sure as heck wasn't aluminium.
