    2.7 TDV6 oil filter help

    Hi All,
    I'm doing an oil change on our 2012 2.7 TDV6 D4.

I'm stuck at the oil filter, got the old one out, and put the new filter in the housing, now I can't see how I get the little spigot on the filter lined up with its hole in the motor.

Should I have put the filter on the motor then screwed the housing on?

How hard should it be to get the filter out of the housing, the old one I had to grab the little spigot in the vice and pull hard on the housing.
Obviously I don't what to do the same to the new filter.

Should there be O rings or the like top and bottom of the filter? No new ones with the new filter, and nothing obvious in the housing or on the block.

    Thanks

    Tony

You're lucky you pulled up when you did. If you fit the filter to the canister and then fit it and the spigot is not lined up, you get low oil pressure and will damage the engine. It needs to be fitted into the oil cooler side and then fit the canister. You will hear it clip into the canister while screwing it down. They clip in quite well into the canister and take a fair amount of force to get out, as you found. The only o ring to change is the seal on the canister.

    OK,
So can I get the new filter out of the housing without damaging it, or am I stuffed till I get a new filter?

There is a service tool to remove it, but it's doubt there are many around. All you can do is try to remove it. I use multigrips and push it in, and then give it a quick tug out
