Thread: Cruise Control Behaviour

My 03 Range Rover did the same thing but they must have made some alterations to the way new RR works because it is much less aggressive but the new RR will not stay on the speed selected.

Set the speed while cruising at 100km and the speed creeps up to 105km

It’s always a 5km and I’ve seen the same issue raised on an RR site.

So they seem to have swapped one problem for another.

Yeah, mine does that. As such I don't resume until I'm close to the cruise speed. Say when I reach 90 for a cruise of 105.

Yes, mine responds quickly too, but I don't see it as a problem. (This may be because it's a manual, and every time you change gears, the cruise control deselects & I have to reselect it.)

On my TDV6 SE, if, say I had the cruise set to 100kph and I press the resume button from around 40/50kph, the vehicle will accelerate rapidly towards the target speed and go over it by 5 or 10kph. It will then quickly slow to the proper speed and stay there. If you resume cruise closer to the target speed, such as from 70kph, then there isn't a problem. I've had the car at the dealer who appreciates the problem and says that they tried another D3 and discovered it did the same thing. My old XR6T Falcon had cruise and it never behaved this way, nor did my old Disco V8i SE. The thing that is on my mind is that the aggressive behaviour of the D3's cruise could result in a speeding fine!

I've noticed the same esp. when it changes down(auto) for a crest or hill and when it comes over the top it can pick up speed like you say, up to 10kph. I believe the new Mercers also use the traction control to maintain the correct speed, LR have yet to use that idea. I think it has to do with being an auto box. Never had the problem to that extent on the manual D2

I have always presumed the turbo is still boosting when it gets to the speed defined, and therefore takes a while to figure things out. I had this in my Galant VR4, so not a biggie for me. But yes, unneccesarily eager to get up to speed, but I can live with it no dramaz.

Chances of being pinged for the couple of seconds one is over is very unlikely, but yes, possible.

The XR6T I had was an automatic, and when resuming the cruise control, accelerated gently and always hit the target speed spot on.

I find that the cruise control on the V8 works a treat. My suspicion is the (ex) Ford-designed D3 has optimised cruise control, etc for the US market, which is mostly V8's. Leaving it in 6th doesn't help smoothness - anything resembling a hill and the beast just drops off the torque curve. Of course before adding an auxilliary fuel tank, cruise control wasn't much value as by the time I was up to 110 km/hr it was time to slow for more fuel.
