    Timing Belt change

Big weekend...................will do my timing belt change, got the belt, 2 new idler pulleys, necessary special tools etc, etc plus gtr instructions, manual says 3.something hours..............for LR..............probably all weekend for me, hope I get it right, could be horrible consequences if not.

Net job will be the fuel pump belt then the double gearbox flush....................seems like old times with the RRC

    Good luck, Richard!

Do you have full GTR access? If not, I do, so call me on 0414969396 and I can look anything up.

I'll order some oil in a couple of weeks and do my flush then. Of to Tassie on the 2nd for 10 days so I'll get it after that and let you know how I go.

105000 miles which equates to around 168000 Kms, also change the rear fuel pump belt

Richard, the original method was to take the motor out to do the back belt, you quoted LR as 3 hours, so this method must have changed to something sensible? I assume the new method means that anyone who can do this gets certified as a contortionist?

I am really interested to hear how you got on changing the belts also costing. My dealer told me to change mine at 96K which I didn’t do as I knew it should be around 164K, but the quotes started at $2700 then a week later was told LR now had bundled all the bits into a kit for $1500 (April 08) cant recall if this included labor.

I think Peugeot say to change theirs at 7 years or 180K.

    Best of luck,

    Ryall

The 3+ hours relates to the front belt and I can see how it can be done by having all the equipment including a hoist and most of all having done it a few times, just checked, the GTR sheet relating to the timing belt states remove and replace at 3.1 hours. I think I would be able to get my times down to around 5 - 6 hours if I did it a couple of more times. It only took me around 5 hours to have it ready for installation.

So far the front will cost: timing belt kit was quoted at around $250, 2 x idler pulleys $59 each, special tool kit $102 so a significant saving.

According to the GTR the motor doesn't need to come out for the back belt, all pics show the motor in place. There is quite a lot of ancillary equipment to be removed or put aside though.

Thanks for the update Richard, I think what you are doing is the way to go but I'll have to get friendly with GTR first and overcome my reluctance to RTFM.

I seem to read the friendly manual and then ask do they really mean that? Luckily I have a friend who is a Peugeot technician who can be persuaded to explain things in simple terms to me.

    Regards,

    Ryall

Sorry Jamo, i meant to thank you for your offer, I have GTR access and had downloaded all the relevant stuff a few weeks ago so I could familiarize myself with it.......didn't want to go in cold!.

Let me know if the flush sorts out the problem
