    TDV6 Oil confusion

I read somewhere that Castrol Edge 5W-30 is the way to go but having a look on the Castrol "lube reference guide" at Castrol Australia - NetLube I notice that they suggest 0W-40 for 2007 onwards and 5W-30 or 0W-40 for 2005-2006 models.

What changed in the engine between 06 and 07? And should I be using 0W-40 and not 5W-30 for my 07?

Also, I'm up in the tropics (Darwin) where its a lot hotter than the rest of oz... these recommendations I guess are based on the average user in oz which would be down south?

    Any advice welcome

I've been going through this myself. I contacted Castrol after a while coz when i did the Castrol website thing, it told me to use 0W40 but the oil cap and the handbook says 5W-30.

this is what i got back: quote

"The preferred oil (a SAE 5W-30 viscosity grade oil called Castrol SLX Professional OE) is available, but comes only in a 20 litre pack minimum. If you need a smaller pack (eg. 5 litre), you may use the Castrol Edge Sport 0W-40 in the crankcase of this vehicle"

i'm in an 08 SE TDv6 so looks like i'll be getting the 20L pack sometime.

I went chasing the spec given in the owners manual and was told it was only able to be sold to LR dealers, in the end I went with the 0w-40
