I apologise if this is already covered somewhere......
Been thinking about getting extended mode when I want it, which is not often but handy from climbing over the odd rock. I don't want to tamper with the D3 in any way for fear of warranty issues so.....
Could I simply carry a block of wood and when needed:
1) While in off road height,
2) Shove it under the chassis rail near a wheel,
3) Select normal height,
4) Drop down onto the block and
5) Magically get boosted into extended mode?
Just a thought.........

As I understand it, to make the car go into Extended, the car needs to be grounded out with wheelspin. So if you want to get to Extended, you lower the car purposly to ground it and get some wheel spin, that should make Extended work.
The important thing however, once you get extended with the flashing off road hight light, sensible folks reverse off, stupid ones drive on.
BTW - re-set it as soon as possible. you will find the ride is rather on the firm side.

That technique does work. However, on mine (2008), it only Extends a little further, only a few mm, and won't go into Super Extended.
As to whether you drive on or off when it goes into Extended, I think that's situation-dependent.

Been doing what whiteD3 says for ages (good way to demonstrate the vehicles capability to Japcrap owners)
If you then put your foot on the brake and hold the 'up button it will go into super extended.
When in extended or especially supper extended do not put it in full lock and boot it.Seems the CVs don't take kindly to that.

I normally stick it in off road height and drop to normal but will work from normal to access too.
Just get a bit of 4x2 and put against the rail and measure from ground to just below the rail then cut it.
Shouldn't effect the vehicle or warranty. This is what it was designed to do when stuck.

The easiest thing to use is the LR jack. While at off-road height, just wind it up until it touches the chassis (at the rear jacking point seems to work best) and then wind a little further to take up the weight. Jump in and lower the car to normal. It should sense the obstacle and (as a safety measure) go immediately to extended height. From there you can select 'emergency' (or 'super-extended') profile.
Remember though, you're limited to 8kph and/or 45sec of travel.
