    Antenna mount for D3 - no bullbar

    Can someone point me in the direction of a antenna mount that works well with the D3. Hopefully no drilling. Not too fussed if I mount the antenna near the drivers side bonnet hinge or out of the grille unless there is a real good reason for one over the other.

    Currently looking at a RFI CD900 antenna to go with a ICOM IC-440. Does anyone have a recommendation of where to best install it? Front left bonnet or driver/passenger side of bonnet?

    From my passenger's complaints about the antenna in their view, I'd say definitely the passenger side.

    Have a look here for a bracket.

    1. Roofrack (using a unity gain antenna like mine, very effective)
    2. Bullbar
    3. Mount at the front of the grill (I know someone who has made these up)

    do you have some more details on your antenna? make/model? Is there a bracket available that you know of to mount it without a roof rack attached?

    whited3, which GME bracket were you referring to?

    Looks like the MB407SS will do it. You will have to drill holes, no way around it but as long as you treat it right (cold gal?) it'll be fine. If its any consolation I had roof tracks fitted this week by ARB and they have to drill into the roof to fit them...no choice

    If the antenna base is a UHF or PL259 type plug use a bootlid mount from your friendly CB or ham shop. There are a few makes including Diamond and Benelec. Attach it to the trailing edge of the bonnet out of line of sight. Rubber protects the paint . The antenna can be sloped in in the brush. It doesn"t hit the windscreen with the bonnet up. It is fairly clear of the turret to give a good radiation pattern. I have one either side for UHF CB and 2m/70cm.

    Ended up getting icom ic-440, rfi cd-900 antenna and a z-bonnet boot mount from prestigecom.net.au.

    All arrived a couple of days after ordering.

    The z-bonnet mount works well. Just needed to bend it again in a couple of places.

    I mounted it on the drives side near the bonnet strut. There are 2 channels about 50mm apart and a screw that you can get too that the bracket will attach to nicely. Put some bike tube rubber around the mount and no problems with clearance. Antenna cable sits in the channels nicely.

    Found though that the spring on the cd-900 just catches the bonnet on the way up and down so put some of the same bike tube rubber over the spring to prevent the paint running. Shouldn't be a drama as the bonnet doesn't open that often.
