Second battery is a problem. However there is space in the Oz version where the FBH is.
I am sure drivesafe will find a way to extend the loom for the suff in the battery compartment.

I agree with Caver, and also that was an HSE which is bound to have extra junk under the bonnet compared to an SE.

I actually think the 2.7 D4 may be the smart buy, not the 3.0, and that would have the same under-bonnet config as the D3, or very close to it.

Attached are some pics of a D4 engine bay of the 3.0 I took on Saturday. Not sure if anything was meant to be in the space but a secon battery may fit?

FBH goes there normally. We don't get it in Oz.
Could put the battery there. Either make a bracket or move the stuff out of the spare battery box to there.

D4 engine option? Sorry rmp, but I disagree. Go for the bigger engine - the 3.0lt (244hp/600Nm v's 190hp/440Nm). I've had a crack at it and it's worth it unless you just plan to use it to collect the kids at school - which I'm sure WE don't (I've had D3's since they were released in Oz). More power is always the answer

Dual battery? I put mine in the 'second battery compartment'. It's a tight fit but perfect for the Optima: YellowTop: OPTIMA Batteries (I didn't check to see if the D4 'spare battery box' is the same as the D3). The cover went back on and kept everything looking standard. (LR won't honor elec warranty issues after we muck with bits like this)

Compressor? I made a little bracket and mounted my compressor next to the plastic coolant bottles (where the Euro model pre-heater goes)

These turned out to be easy, reliable conversions that required NO new holes drilled!

Wheel/tyre options? Blowed if I know! This topic is bound to get a lot of attention.

I'm not saying the 3.0 isn't a better engine, but the engine isn't the whole buying decision, and while I didn't say, I was considering the perspective of an offroad tourer without an unlimited budget.

In the D4, forget about trying to fit a 2nd battery in the space used in the D3 (it's now full of other "stuff").

Certainly better wheel/tyre options for an offroad tourer with the 2.7, and there are lots of 2.7 D3 owners who are happy enough with the engine. Not having to pay for the leather/7 seat combo and 19" rims reduces the price quite a lot too.

    Guys,
    That includes all models 2.7, 3.0 & 5.0.
I had a look under all the bonnets today & saw the new ECU located in the ABS/Brake fluid box.

Looks like the only place will now be where the FBH used to be.

    Cheers
