There are two D3 petrol engines. From memory the V8 takes premium and the V6 standard. I do know the V8 supercharged in the RRS takes premium and lots of it. Either way the answer for any vehicle including D3s will be in the owner's manual if not on the filler cap door.

Oops. I don't believe it! He found me!

Honey! I was trying to get the answer by myself! And what's wrong with a bit of dependance on a man? Isn't it nice to feel needed?

Thanks for sticking up for me slug_burner.

    Hi All

For what it is worth I tried them all when I bought my D3 V6 about a year ago..... ran it on 91 (Regular), 95 (Premium), and 98 (Super Duper Premium??). Compared costs of fuel with fuel consumption etc.....

In the end, premium, 95, is the way to go. Extra cost of fuel is saved by improved fuel consumption, so it is actually cheaper to run on 95 than 91, despit 91 being cheaper by the litre. 98 Is considerably more expensive and no notable improvement in fuel consumption. Funny enough, after trying all this I read the manual and it recommends 95.....

Some of you guys mention power, and I can't say I noticed any difference.

You don't mention your engine, but with my V8 you can feel the difference with 98 octane in power and better economy. I've never done the maths but I don't think it costs more to run on this as you get better economy. The smile factor covers any difference...

However, my wife put 91 octane in it once. We thought it was broken. Very slow. To the point that you had to allow bigger gaps to pull out into, etc. It was quite unnerving until we got used to it.

It seemed to take a couple of tanks of 98 to get the system back to normal. If I'd been thinking I'd have dropped a bottle of octane booster in as soon as she confessed.

    Cheers, Steve

Hi Fifi and welcome to the forum, you will get great support here and as others have pointed out, no such thing as silly questions, just ask away.

If you do something wrong because you didn’t want to ask, that would be silly.

My wife has a petrol D3 and as WhiteD3 posted, it will run on any unleaded fuel but you get better results if you go for the good stuff.

Mwah haha very funny MobyDisco - I knew you had a Ted Bulpitt in you somewhere. He's come up before hasn't he???

Mrs Ho Har??? Another girlie to play with? Coool!!

Well no more excuses, today is cheap petrol day, so I will take the plunge. I dropped in at the local Caltex yesterday and picked up a pamphlet. As most of you have suggested, I will put Vortex Premium in her which is 95. Not the Vortex 98 and see how she runs.

Did you note the feminine article when I refferred to the Disco? Yes, I have decided there are not enough females in our family and as I am Queen of Everything, she is to be christened a girl.

Darling (MobyDisco, that is) I have arranged to have some special pink car seat covers made. Don't worry, they can fit them around the airbags, so the kids will still be safe. And they are throwing in a fluffy pink dice for the mirror too.

Fifi, do us a favour and reset the trip meter when you fill up. Be interested to see what sort of economy you get.
