Misfuelling is so common in the UK that their road service ( like NRMA- RACQ ) now have a fleet of specially set up vehicles that will come to you at the servo, pump your tank out, clean it and fill it with the correct fuel.
All this for about £350 ( $AUD700 )
I misfueled just once.
It was in my D1 and put about 80 litres of petrol, hung the hose back up and the misses noticed I had just filled up with petrol.
3 hours later and lots of brand new lawn mower fuel cans full of mixed fuel in the back of the D1 and a full tank of DIESEL, I continued on my way.
You could get away with a small amount of petrol in an older diesel powered vehicle and they actually use to mix up to 25% petrol with diesel in vehicles in extremely cold climate countries.
Hi mate,
The larger nozzles will not fit. They may fit into the first section, but this then means you have to hold it..I know what you do Graeme...naughty boy...
Can it be replaced, i would assume so, but that is something that you may have to do yourself as LR will not allow us to modify the vehicle from factory in any way....they even frown upon us for tinting windows!
Cya soon.

Thanks Sneigy. I rather doubted that the device could handle 2 different size diesel nozzles.
LR replaced the filler neck on our 1st D2 with a larger one and the 2nd D2 had the larger one already. As the local servo has the large nozzle on its sole diesel bowser (and the handle is always covered in diesel), I wont be dribbling the fuel in for longer than I have to. I'll have no qualms about replacing the filler neck if that's the solution although it would be preferable if the device could just be unclipped.
For those who don't remove the device, jerry can spouts could be a challenge too.

After having a look at the mis-fuelling device, I think it wont be a problem. The large initial section is about 60mm deep and the big nozzle that I regularly use doesn't go any deeper into my D2's filler, although the nozzle catches on the D2's lip and that is still to be determined (by me anyway) for the D4.
