    In 6 months...wowser..

Servicing costs are very similar to the D3, there is a slight increase, but not much, only due to the newer more expensive oils in the 3.0 & 5.0 if u choose this engine.
But as said not a real big difference.

    Cheers

Be careful with changing oil over unless they recommend it. I know VW dont, their service schedules are 15k/12m & use a special running in oil for the 1st 12m. If you change the oil, it can glaze (I think that was the term) the cylinders & increase oil consumption.

LR's promo material for the 3.0 says that a semi-synthetic oil is used, so that should be fine for running in and afterwards. Its not as though at the 1st normal service the oil is switched to fully-synthetic, which I understand isn't particulalry suitable for bedding in the rings.

I like to have front and rear diff oils changed quite early (by 5-10K), as that's where there's some real bedding-in and there's no filter to remove the particles.

My experience with a 1998 M-B Actros truck which had both a dip-stick (which was deleted entirely the next model year) & the menu is that the computer proved to be very accurate. To get to the dipstick meant dropping the bull bar and popping the grille - not a job I fancy at 5:00 am in the middle of winter. A note was first made on the menu when it was down three litres (44 L sump capacity ), up until then it just registered "OK" and it measured in half litre amounts until the most I let it go was six litres.
Before start up occasionally it would register "down 3.0 L" (or sometimes ever "overfull") but then settle down to "OK" once on the move so I tended to check the level at the end of the previous day, or if I forgot after engine temp was reached and I was stopped at lights/idling slowly along as I found this to be more accurate than before initial start up. This is one feature that I loved.

LR have now moved onto 12Mnth servicing of "ALL" the 10MY vehicles.
For the Discovery 4 range, servicing is as follows.
    3.0L is 12Months/26000K's
    5.0L is 12Months/26000K's
    2.7L is 12Months/24000K's
What has changed in the 2010 2.7L to be able to go from 6 to 12 mths / 24,000km?
