How do you check if the brake pads need replacing?
My D3 is just about to hit 60k and I don't think the brake pads have been changed yet. I've asked the previous owner (my Dad) but he couldn't remember if they have been done or not.

DBA do rotors for the D3 they do slotted rotors and slooted and drilled too but the plain ones cost more than OEM ones.

Just had my 3rd set of pads fitted at 90,000, so averaging only 30k a set.
Beware waiting for the sensor to go off before you fit new pads. In my case, it was only this last time that the sensor went off (apart from the dash light, you also get an annoying bong every time you use the brakes).
Cost to replace front and rear pads only, plus one new sensor was $445.
2015 D4 TDV6 - a black one (bought used - getting to love it...)
2011 D4 TDV6 - a grey one (bought new, loving it - now the wife's)
2006 D3 SE TDV6 - a silver one (bought new, loved it - traded for 2011 D4)

Goes out by itself once pads and/or sensor have been replaced.
Did the sensor also get replaced? If not then it will also need to be replaced. This is why the warning is still on. Another possibility is the sensor is not refitted correctly &/or brokn.
Cheers.
