You need some advice -
look for a toyota -
seriously some issues I have faced are as follows
1. At least 5-6 sensors failing - eg front wheel sensor failed sent car into LIMP mode 15 hrs after taking car
2. Main flywheel sensor being replaced by taking out the gearbox
3. Check compressor case at front of passenger rear wheel hasn't been use to jack up car (done that) it ruins the compressor
4. Gearbox fault has recently appeared and service dept haven't got the fix yet
All in a car that hasn't required the first service (12,000km) yet and is 9 mths old and hasn't done any off road work
So I would suggest a full check of the vehicles service history would be the first place to start.

Wow Discoscriber! 5 posts and all 5 have been complaining about your car!

Some actual advice, check for service history, it is vital in any used car. The vast majority of people will agree a D3 is a very reliable vehicle, LR does seem to have started to shake its reputation of questionable quality in the latest models. The money you pay for a D3 will buy you a far more capable, functional and comfortable vehicle than pretty much any other in the same 'category' of a similar price.

Good luck with your searching, if you have any suspicions, there will always be other cars.

Hey Discoscriber,
I think you must go to same dealer as me at least you get your car in to the workshop, how do you get them to order parts four ya.

To Seano87 my apologies I am very new at this type of discussion. I will cease discussing my vehicle.
To roamer it appears that we do go to the same dealership, however i have had nothing but great assistance from the service crew. They have always been helpful and tried to fix any problems I have had.

Oh no, please do discuss your car, my point was that you haven't really said anything about it that is good! Only the bad stuff. Surely it's not all bad?

Have the car checked by someone who knows LR's and particular the D3. If the car is at a LR dealer get them to check the vin against the LR service database to see if any issues are outstanding, like :-

1) Oil in the vacume booster (issue may not relate to your car, but is a LR recall issue on some cars).

2) Does the car have a louder than usual thump when crossing carpark speedbumps? in older cars this may indicate that the lower front balljoints need replacing. Depending on age of car this may be covered by LR warranty, again check the LR service database.

As has been said the D3 has a few equals in the off road department, and the TDV6 motor has heaps of torque that is great for towing my 3 ton van. My wife and I get to our destination hundreds of kilometers away and can participate in whatever is going on without feeling washed out from the drive.

I have a 2005 TDV6 with 130k thats only had a few show stoppers, mainly my own stupidity, one was a flat car battery and forgetting the van has 3 deep cycle batteries, another was not thinking and jacking the car up using the suspension air compressor as a jacking point.

The real question is, would I get another one, You bet I would!!!!

MY 09....81,000 km, one destroyed tyre, nearly 3 tonne van and high country trips. Some design probs only i.e. the tow hitch and the spare stowage but fixable. RRs an Discos since 86. Can't do better. But if you don't know what sort of chap has owned it get it well checked out, particularly the service history with a dealer. Super reliable. Dicsosciber must be praying to the wrong god. Stewart
