The weight of our beloved D3s is always a hot topic, but I came across this statement in another thread
“The disco's are an extremely heavy vehicle especially with the ballasting weights around the vehicle. Id like to thing the weight of the vehicle especially laidened, and wrong tyres in soft sand will bog any vehicle.”
It is the first I have ever heard about ballasting weights. Can anyone confirm this, and if so why, where and how much etc etc?
Might explain why the D3 is so much heavier than an RRS………

I've seen these statements everywhere since the D3 came out. The issue is not that it weighs 2486kg (D4 2.7 TDV6 base kerb weight), but how much more does it weigh compared to other vehicles.
FYI an LC200 GXL TD weighs 2720kg kerb weight.
Weights are from the brochures.

SubscriberThere are two harmonic balancers behind the rear bumper. There are some threads on their purpose here if you do a search. I'm over the weight argument also, if you need to go somewhere the D3 won't due to it's weight buy a zook, you may notice some decline in the customer experience on the highway though.

The D3 is doing things far easier in 95% of the situations its been in.

If that is all they are I gather they are not unique to the D3..... and they can't weigh that much.......

I can't see them being more than 10KG each (there are two). Modern vehicles all have them and this is not the issue. If you are worried about this don't fill your tank more than a quarter full.If that is all they are I gather they are not unique to the D3..... and they can't weigh that much.......

I weighed my S D3 and it was 2,500kg on the weighbridge. Now that I have bullbar, Kaymar rear bar with 2nd spare and long range tank it is 2800kg. Fill the tanks and put the gear in the back and its close to GVM with 2 passengers. If you have an HSE it starts at 2715kg same as the 200 Cruiser so there's not much you can add without going over GVM
