Thread: Where do I mount a fire extinguisher?

My extinguisher is mounted in front of the driver's seat on the floor. It's well secured. From experience, I can assure you that when you need an extinguisher you will need it FAST, and I mean fast so I would not mount one in the rear cargo area. The rear side door is another good location. A fire blanket is also a good idea as a secondary assist.

If ever you get an engine fire just crack the bonnet open far enough to get the ext under it, spray, and hope. Don't open the bonnet wide as the rush of air means you'll instantly regret it.

My extinguisher has a bracket that can easily be bolted through the bottom of the rear side door "wine carrier" if I make a little extension - a job for when I've finished the cuppa. It beats being hidden in the tow hitch cubbyhole where it was.

Robert, some pics? I need to mount mine but had put it into the too hard basket and carried it around wrapped up to stop it being knocked

I have to find a home for my 1.5kg version, and I also favour in front of the drivers or passengers seat. The other common position used to be on the passengers side of the transmission tunnel. Haven't checked that is practical with the D4 as yet. I agree, when required, it needs to be quickly accessed, or you may as well reach for the camera to get a pic of a burning vehicle. I will let you know how I get on.

I had thought about this, but was worried about the possibility (albeit slim) of the extinguisher working loose and ending up under a brake pedal at an inopportune moment...... Also could get interesting if the safety gives up the ghost under the drivers feet and discharges the contents at 100km/h on the way home from an outing......

I might try the Passenger side in front of the seat, but I still like the idea of the rear door wine cooler...... any reason you coudn't do that in the front door??

None - but I usually need to get to the Shiraz quicker

a very very good point!!

Right rear door bottle holder, bracket screwed into door. Neoprene foam under and around base. The chrome version looks swish. Keep your bottle somewhere else.
