    RRS Bonnet Protector

When driving out of town the bonnet of my RRS had been getting a lot of stone chips and I have not been able to find traditional bonnet protector.

Came across this on ebay - cheap and good feedback score. Not really a car bra as it does not cover the bumper etc but maybe a good alternative to a plastic protector, though I think I would only put it on when travelling.

    What do you think??

    Hi Garry,
I have a friend who had one of these on his CRX in the 90s, the vehicle was black & he cared for this vehicle more than his mother!

For the price I think it is excellent, considering back when the car bra was expensive at around $300+ dollars.

Just be careful if you choose this option though as the bonnet needs to be clean, when removing & storing the bonnet bra it needs to be kept in something so dirt dust etc will not sit on the underside of the bra, as when you fit it back onto the vehicle you don't want to scratch the bonnet.

    Good luck,

p.s. ever thought the companies that come to you & fit 3M protective sheeting to whatever panels you like? (bonnet, side view mirrors, front bar, head lights etc etc)

Hit the 'Buy It Now' button on this on Monday night and it arrived at 1030 this morning - 4 days from Ankara in Turkey - not bad at all.

Looks the goods - noting it is not a car bra as it does not cover the lower body work - just the bonnet - is really a bonnet protector. The only issues are the that main strap that extends from one side of the engine bay to the other and the excess strap could get caught in the fan but putting a few knots in it fixed this.

Only takes about a minute to put it on and to take it off.

The colour of my car is good at hiding stone chips (on a 2km section of the Braidwood to Nowra road I got about 100 stone chips on the front and a bullseye on the lower black area on my windscreen - all caused by the RTA not sweeping up stones after laying bitumen and one car going the other way at about 40kph - the same speed I was doing). This will further help - it will get a run down to Corowa and back tomorrow.

And they wonder why we buy stuff on "the web" - if you'd bought it from Sydney you'd still be waiting for another week or so - and then the dealer would ring you and say "sorry mate I thought we had that in stock but I was mistaken"......

I went the other way. I had my entire car covered in 3M Venture Shield clear film. Not as shiny as paint, but I take the car anywhere and don't give the bush pinstripes a second thought! I do have a couple of nice stipes on the film...

That's pretty extreme. Does the film come off easy enough after a few years ? Did you do this yourself if so was it easy to apply ? Where would you purchase rolls from and how many bickies for the rolls ?
