Unless things have changed then the dealer is your only option, by the looks of it, $340 is cheap.

I did a forum search but couldn't find anything.... Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.
I only got one key with my recent purchase of a second hand RRS.
The local dealer has quoted me $340 for a duplicate.
Does anyone know of a better (cheaper) way?
Or am I over a barrel...
Any advice appreciated
Rob.

SubscriberYep, $340 is cheap. Have a look at nearly any other makes with a 'smart' key and they can easily top $1k. My old VR Commodore I think was about $100 and that wasn't smart.

You won't get it any cheaper. They are ordered from the UK via VIN and come precut. Then have to be programmed to the vehicle.
Hi Rob,
Thanks for asking the question I was looking for a thread myself in regard to a replacement D3 key, I have the key and the case it is the circuit board underneath that is busted, I suspect I'm up for the same sort of cost..........bugger, feeling the joy right now.
Thanks all,
From your feedback and two other enquiries I made, thàts the current cost.
Even the key guy in the stall at the mall said no chance,... and told me 340 was a good price.
I ordered it yesterday from a dealer, was told 8-10 working days since it comes from the uk, key cut and semi coded for my car.
Incidentally though, there's another $66 to have it paired with the vehicle and the other key. (15 minute job they tell me)
So actually the best part of $410
Lesson ...LOOK AFTER YOUR KEYS!
And make sure there are two when buying a used car, or knock $500 off the offer...
(And landrover service staff are charged out at $240/hour + Gst)

						I have the same problem
Bought a second hand RRS and had two keys supplied
I should have tried both but didn't
Perhaps I have yours :0)
Don't know how to confirm which car the second key came from
I will ask the dealer
Thanks Clelo
Looks like you're up for an extra $400 too!
It's not like we don't have enough to spend our money on already....
Good luck , maybe the dealer will come to the party since you were actually supplied the wrong one.
Rob.
Cheers Baz.

						Thanks Redback
Changed the battery then realised the actual key is a different cut to the one that works so I am still waiting for the dealer to get back to me
Bought it in Melbourne and live near Canberra so I have been onto two dealers for help
Both dealers are slow to respond particularly Melbourne they have gone very quiet
