L322 problems

Hi Guys,
I just sold my TD5 99 Disco which was a absolute treasure and was and is a great car.I bought a 02 HSE 4.4 and yes I was cautious, but the car is in pristine condition and paid $37K, with 162Klm on the clock, full service, was a Land Rover dealers wifes car.So shopping trolley in Bris.
I live in the country and it drives a absolute treat.

That V* rumble is hard to beat, and when pulling a van, really verbs up.
Apples for Apples I would go V8 over Diesel.I pulled my Coromal Van, 18 foot fully laiden and at mainly hwy speed 100kph and still got just on 500 klms.
Big secret is not braking too hard, or travelling to close, as to pick up speed from rolling down, takes a hit on the tank.
Just being a bit smarter than the average joe.

Thanks guys.Well I did it yesterday bought an 04 TD6 HSE. Very nice. Traded My P38 in. Too good of a deal to pass up. Still it was a bit more than I intended to spend. Went with my head in getting a TD6 and not a V8.

Just a bit of an upgrade!

Good choice.. I have had mine for over a month now and love it:D Its the best motor choice for a range rover IMO.

Ive always owned V8's.. never again after buying this car;)

Hope we have made the right choice. I've had V8 mostly too. But after driving wife's Hyundai I30 diesel. Well time will tell.

Adding to this thread I just want to say that i have now had my 03 TD6 for 7/8 months and after owning two very nice highly modified Nissan Patrols (which are great trucks) and many other Toyota's the rangie is in a class of its own

I drive very easy and always try to achieve the best consumption figures i possibly can, On long distance trips from Sydney to Melbourne sitting on 100kph i can return about 8 liters per 100k no worries at all which is just astounding for a 2.5 plus tonne truck. On top of that the power and torque of the engine just blows me away :p.. very impressed!!

I should also add that my rangie had 215k ks on the clock when i brought it and it now has 240 and it runs like clockwork, I change the oil & filter every 5 thousand k,s or sometimes even less/ replaced the crankcase breather filter yesterday and at some stage (yet to find out) the transmission was rebuilt and it shifts like a dream however i am about to give it the oil and filter change just to keep everything clean and happy

I did quite some research on the bmw m57 engine before i brought a TD6 rangie and i honestly could not find a bad word about them, quite the opposite actually;) . It appears to me that bmw really did their homework when they designed the M57

Dave,I did the same search before I bought my Td6 and it's very hard to find any issue's with it here or O/S.They are top shelf engines. Pat

LOl i don't care for post counts like the current generation of teens that let facebook rule their lives .... and trust me dodo/ optus wireless broadband in certain areas is beyond a joke

Anyway TD6 Rangies. Yes the M57 diesel is one top unit :p. A mate of mine that recently did a trip down from qld in hes 06 jeep Cherokee was proudly telling me how he achieved 15 liters per 100k on the way down as he was admiring the Rangie, Well he almost fell over when i told him i can all but halve that in the TD6 rangie no worries at all :p

I honestly believe that i could get behind the wheel of any brand new top of the range Nissan or Toyota and it would feel like a piece of junk compared to my 03 L322 :), The machine continually impresses me and this weekend it may even see some minor offroad action as i will be camping up at Barrington with the camper trailer in tow


As you may well know Pat the M57 won international engine of the year several times and many other awards and is still in production obtaining these'

I think you are spot on about this - although I haven't driven an L322 long distance yet - still working on buying one and only test driven a few of them, I have driven a brand new Land Cruiser my mate is looking at buying, and it ain't no Range Rover.... I know which one I would prefer... :)
