Seen a 05 HSE Td6 advertised today with 201k on the clock, it stated it had a new trannie fitted. If that's right , it's the first late model 5L40E auto I've heard that has died either here or the UK. It would be nice to find out the true story as it didn't do much better than the early model.!

The one I replaced was a 2004 UK import, around the same km IIRC, I can check the mileage next week for you to be sure..

Thanks Justin it would be good to know it's build date !

I checked further and found out this car is actually a 03 model !!!

I wonder how many people have purchased or sold a L322 as the wrong year model. A lot of dealer and private ads are wrong, I think they go on the compliance plate mainly or when it was first sold !

Does the RR Sport L320 2006 suffer with the same transmission issues, ie 200k km and a rebuild ??
Just out of interest what is the difference between the L320 and L322 ?

I only ask as I've been offered the L320 less than 100k km at a good price and am tempted.

If it ain't broke, don't mess with it.

Lots of differences between the Sport and the FF (Full Feature or 'Full Fat' ). The Sport is based on the D3/D4 chassis, while the FF (up to 2012)is a monocoque construction - the new FF is on an all new alloy chassis. FF is much bigger inside, and has a lot more features by the time you get to the Vogue and Autobiography models - the FF can be about twice the price too when new.

Nothing wrong with the Sport though, if you can get one at a good price, and you like what you see, then go for it. If you check out a FF model as well, you will see straight away the differences.

    Thanks Gav...
If the RR sport is based on the D3, does that mean it won't suffer with the transmission issues discussed in this thread?

If it ain't broke, don't mess with it.

There is a thread going in the D3,RRS section about a problem with the auto box and there is a D3 in the market place here for sale which has 265K on it and had the auto box rebuilt by Graeme Cooper's so I guess these earlier models have their own problems as well when the car ages with kilometres (which is a surprise to me as I thought up until now the auto in the D3 and RRS was pretty much bullet proof).

I would think a few early ones suffered from the "filled for life' phrase----

I have a 2005 HSE TD6 with 232km on the clock. There has been no previous work on the gearbox that I'm aware of. I'm the 2nd owner and had a full copy of the service history when I purchased it at approx 180km.

Sadly it has started to give me a "Trans Failed" msg on the dash then goes into limp mode. If you pull over, shut down and restart it seems to clear the error and everything goes back to normal. Everything seems to change fine both before & after the error msg. I'm just starting my research on what to do next. Reading this thread it would appear I've been very lucky to get this far.

I don't have access to a diagnostic tool so I guess the first step is to take it in and see exactly what error is showing. Maybe it's just a $2 fuse gone... but somehow I'm guessing not...

    Cheers, LandieMan

Only owned it about 2 months when I lost reverse which led to the rebuild.

    Bloody love the thing though.

    Hi Adrian,

Who did the rebuild for you? I might be in a similar position as mine is just starting to play up. Might need explore some experienced rebuilders this side of the ditch.

    Cheers, LandieMan
