By up spec I meant of better material like they make the valve body out of better metal, so that it would last longer. I can see how up spec could also mean higher pressure.

I thought they'd be able to control the pressure and drop it for the short period of the gear change and then increase it to max pressure to control slip. But hey that doesn't help the TD6 owners.

Good chance it has already been done... look under car for anything that may say so like a sticker on the side of the unit etc, Then if you find a sticker for say a&b you can ring them and give them the vin and they should be able to tell you all about it

That price is misleading. I would say that the valve body is not replaced/ modified, the main pressure valve and pump isn't fully specced and replaced, and that wouldn't include labour, either.

I have an L322 in at the moment that had $4500 spent on the trans in Victoria, less than 1000km ago. I am now removing the trans and sending it away to be built properly. Expect a bill of 7K drive in drive out or you will be doing it again.

    Period.

Mine went at 235000kms. Had a sonnax kit fitted and all the plates replaced. TC rebuilt and importantly a new cooler fitted. All up about NZ$9000.
Only owned it about 2 months when I lost reverse which led to the rebuild.

    Bloody love the thing though.

Are there any other TD models in the 322 that have a good auto box?

There was an upgrade to the 5 speed GM box in the TD6 from about 4/2004, guys on FFRR have identified the VIN in which the change was made. Unfortunately because there never was a problem there was never any information on what the change was. Generally prior to this model failure numbers are high (some say guaranteed), after this date numbers are much much lower.

The 3.6 TDV8 received the same ZF 6 speed box as found in D3/4

Has anyone changed their transmission in the early diesel models to a more reliable one?

There is a member here - Donrover0 - that is currently fitting a 5L50E to his, but he doesn't get much time to work on it I don't think. He has it fitted in with a few mods, but not a complete runner yet.

Details of what has been done is in this thread - http://www.aulro.com/afvb/l322-range...-problems.html

We are all holding our collective breaths waiting to see how it goes...
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Just to throw a spanner in the works here, I bought mine with 236k on it and it had had the trans rebuilt by a&b not long before...which was why I bought it. It now has 280k on it and the trans just had a "spectacular failure"
No warning, just lost drive on the way home from work after a few shedders when it down-shifted as I was slowing for lights, the TC had completely disintegrated, and destroyed the pump in the process. I have been really good with the servicing, and there was no particles in the fluid at filter changes.
This time I took it to another Trans specialist (near melb Airport) drive in-drive out was $6500 I hope it's all good from now on......

I did here some talk about a supplier of TC rebuilds that was suffering from lots of failures....
    Cheers,

    Fraser
