    TD6 Oil leak – filter housing / cooler

    Hi Guys

    I’ve sprung a leak, It appears to be coming from the filter housing / cooler assembly and has become a significant leak in a very short time.

    Looking through RAVE (ENGINE – TD6 Integrated Oil Cooler and Filter Assembly) there is 2 gaskets – between engine & fiter housing – between filter housing & cooler. I assume it is coming from one of these, this weekend I aim to see if we can see which.

    Question – can I buy these gaskets, or can I cut them from a gasket blank? Looks like it’s not the biggest job to do.

    I have a new crank case breather coming. Given the volume and speed this has started, I am assuming it is clogged.

    You will need to buy them as they are a o-ring type gasket. Part numbers are LVH000010 and LVH000020.

    The crank case breather wont make any difference to this oil leak as it will be pressurized by the oil pump. On another note there is a cyclone breather available that don't clog up like the filter type.

    Thats the breather kit I ordered 2 months ago, still chasing him for a refund.

    Not good to hear. I got one for my parents TD4 and had no problems.

    Just a follow up.
    I waited for a box of spares to arrive from the UK before looking at the leak.

    This ended up being far simpler than first appeared. Removed the covers to get a decent look. After a good wash, then a drive of about 5km, it seamed to be coming from the oil filter cap, neighbour stuck his head in to give an opinion, mrs inspected the issue - we all agree not to pull the cooler off at this stage.

    Did an oil & filter change with new O ring, thorough engine bay wash and after 200km+ there’s no sign of a leak.

    The old O ring looks perfect, appeared to be sitting OK. I checked with torque wrench when leak first started to make sure it wasn’t loose. I can’t get over how much oil was pouring out of a seemingly good O ring.

    I now have 2 intricate looking gaskets in my box of spares. They were 10 pound each if anyone needs one urgently.
