    Multiple fault messages

2003 4.4HSE which I love but just occasionally it does my head in.

During usual 20 min drive into CBD yesterday I got three fault messages come up at the same time :
    • Air Susp inactive
    • Trans failsafe prog
    • DSC inactive
Seen the trans failsafe prog message before and was assured by auto trans mechanic not to worry about it and its always disappeared when the car was re-started.

Journey home started as usual but about 15 ins into it same three messages appeared on message board and dashboard. Can confirm no ability to actually raise or drop suspension.

Any ideas on what this could be - hoping someone smarter than me will say its fuse 3 or some such otherwise its off to Barbegello and hello to their usual massive bill.

    Thanks in advance

Sorry to hear you are having problems Paul .
How good is your battery. These beasts need lots of volts. From memory at least 13.6 volts. Sure I'll be corrected if I've got that wrong.
Also if you don't already have your own diagnostic tool it may be time to buy one. I would recommend the IIDTool from GAP Diagnostic . No I'm not conected just a very happy customer.

Knowing what fault codes have been stored is pretty much mandatory in order to indentify the cause. At a guess it could be a faulty wheel speed sensor because that is likely to put the gbox into limp mode and also inhibit height changes.

My money's on an internal break in one of the Wheel Speed Sensors, probably one of the front ones (because they get flexed more due to steering).
Park somewhere, put it into off road height, leave the engine running and get out and give the wires to the front wheels a good playing with, if you are lucky you will trigger the fault and hear the "bongs".
If it triggers, reset everything and make sure you can do it a second time.
Be careful you don't get your arm stuck between the wheel and the body when the car drops, and don't put yourself under the car at all!!
It could also be a bad connection in the plastic boxes that the sensor cable plugs are in (on the inside of the wheel arch behind the wheel - easy to get to in off-road height mode).
Let me know how you go.

    Cheers,

    Fraser

Gary, Graeme and Fraser - many thanks for your comments - will get diagnostic gizmo and try out your other suggestions and will let you know how I get on.
