Speed read-out on TFT screen - possible?

My RRS had a digital speed readout on the TFT screen, a feature I used all the time and miss it in the 2012 L322.

Does anybody know if it's possible to generate such a speed readout in the full fat? I notice on the fullfat UK forum people talking about how it IS possible, you just have to switch from mph to kph, but mine is already in kph and doesn't do it. Seems a waste of a lot of screen real-estate to me....

    Thoughts?

    Hey Greg.

If there are plp quoting they have it working than it will be possible.

These modules are highly programmable and there will be a setting to turn it on HOWEVER, there’s a good chance the dealer can’t do it and it may well be linked to something like country code which is a predefined profile setting many things.

Take Day Time Running lamps as an example. It is a simple yes / no (with 2 options) in the LCM but it is pre-set with some country codes, the dealer can’t turn on the individual item. Set the car to Canada country code and they are on. There are many aftermarket diagnostic kits available that give you the option of updating ECU settings, several of these have significantly more functionality than the dealer has available, and they pretty much all allow thing like DRL (as an example) settings to be changed.

I don’t have a late L322, so I can’t say exactly how to do it, but it will be possible with the right tool, If it isn’t already in the available menu. May need a bit more reading on the FF site.

Best example of programming – any VW after 2009/10. If it doesn’t have Tyre Pressure monitoring (which was included with some sports or convenience packs) – Go in to the Convenience module with good diagnostic gear and turn it on. Now you have tyre pressure monitoring.

That's good info Harlie, thanks for that. Interesting re VW, I have a new Polo GTI, I'll see if the dealer can do that

Dealer won't do it, and will more likely tell you it can't be done, because they most probably can't (their system won't let them). It is done with VCDS – aftermarket diagnostic software with exponentially more functionality than the dealer.

From VW, it is added as part of either the country code (manitory in USA for example), or options pack (like "sports Pack" on Golf vi for example). With VCDS you can modify the hexadecimal configuration string in the ECU, allowing any combination of all settings and adding optional extras providing the hardware is there - in this case it is. Modifying the HEX string also means you could very easily convert the ECU into a paper weight - the nerd term of "bricking your device" takes on a new scary meaning. This is why most systems including the dealer's don't allow this level of programming.

If your polo has MK60EC1 or later ABS controller (introduced about 2009) it can be done.
