    What Cable is That?

    Ladies and Gentleman,

    Welcome to off pay L322 Cable Trivia Night!!
    (no prizes awarded for correct answers)

    I am attempting to remove the previous owners attempt at a reverse camera plus the previous previous owners hands free kit.

    During my journey i ran in to these random cables.

    In the above photos, do the three spare cable's belong to the nav system? Also is the DSP and the sub-woofers plug and play?

    In the photo above is this an after market cable or a OEM. It ran all the way to the towbar. However it was only appeared to be the power and ground for the reverse camera hence the spilice.

    What does this coax belong to?

    Are the two cables pictured above for the sun roof?

    Regards,

    Jonathon.

    If you don't have the "big screen" up front then you won't have the loom that has all the plugs for sat nav, DSP, video and radio module; nor telephone and voice recognition.

    So do you know what plug that is? Where the wires go etc? I was going to hijack it if it was not useful for anything I can fit.

    Sorry,
    not sure.
    When I "modified" mine and fitted a full system, I don't recall seeing this plug.
    Mine had been changed about before I got it as there was a non-standard phone system fitted. Yep, wires twitched and taped! some "expert" phone installer?

    my car has the extra plugs in the back too. They vanish into the loom. I assumed when I pulled mine out because the amp in the back failed and I fixed it that the extra plug was for the higher spec system as its got quite a number of shielded coax runs in it which I assumed are rgbs feeds.

    I thought the same thing, until I pulled out:

    1. The after market car kit
    2. The original components of the car kit.

    Basically what it is ( 90% sure), is the phone kit or voice activation options that some MID units came with. I would say mine had an original phone unit unit which died and then using the still working components (antenna) an aftermarket kit was installed (badly). So all of those wires actually find there way to either the center console where the phone would sit, the dash into the MID unit and to the steering wheel where the buttons are located.

    Interesting.....

    For all those reading at home, if you have the extra plug in the back it goes to your glove box, well at least most of it. If you have this plug you have 5 shielded signal wires power and ground plus 2 auxiliary wires (no acc power as it come from the box when installed) all running you your glove box between the two compartments. no longer do you have to pull things apart to install stuff in your glove box!!! No longer are we subject to the tyranny.... You get the point.

    attached is a photo of the two layers. there are four screws holding it in on the roof of the bottom compartment. small I used an torkx T10 to get it out

    Below is the link for the wiring diagram..

    Which Cable — Which Harness?

    Hi Jonny,

    The first question we ask is which harness do you have?
    Apparently there were several different harnesses used in the L322, which one depends on the A/V systems and options chosen, some are interchangeable and others are not with specific bits and kits.

    1. Do you have a MFD (monitor, radio thus co-axial in the back) or the MID (LCD pixels, radio thus co-axial in the dash).
    2. What type of amplifier do you have (they have different plugs and looms).

    Plugs you expect in the back
    1. Amplifier DSP[2]/Low-line[1 Not in Aus?]/Mid-line[1]/High-line[2?];
    2. Radio (if you have the MFD) a BM53 or BM54 most likely, this has a co-axial input;
    3. Sat Nav CPU & CD or DVD player box;
    4. Television Tuner Analogue or Digital;
    5. Bluetooth module;
    6. Voice Recognition Module;
    7. DVD Player for rear seat monitors;

    Co-axial cable is most likely for the TV tuner (you probably have the tv signal amplifiers installed under the left and right hand rear side windows or less likely the telephone.

    Check out the rave library, and in particular the file ellm024e.pdf as it has most of the details about each and every plug on the car, check those located in the left rear compartment, and I am sure you will find it there. Check/search the forums for how to obtain the Rave files.

    BTW I think you may have uploaded a different photo to the what you are describing.

    I have the MID line Audio Harness with the Telephone and Voice Control looms, absent the actual control boxes with the exception of the OEM multi band antenna.

    There ARE many different looms used in the L322.

    These wires are being used for non standard purposes such that i have no interest in what they were initially designed to do just where they go (eg the wires in question are for an NFC bluetooth receiver).. I am at the stage where I take out carpet and remove all the audio loom accept the accessory power wires and speaker wire.

    Thank you for the Rave reference

    for the record I do not have:
    Bluetooth
    Navigation, in any form
    Television analog or digital in any form nor signal amplifier.
    Any cable related to DVD

    The photo is of the compartment between the two trays in the center console where one end of the telephone cable lives. My cable is removed because i removed it... Thought it might be helpful for people to imagine the possibilities if they knew, potentially that there is a power and ground that do not run off the cigarette lighter circuit in the center console. If you are talking about the attached link. My telephone plugs in my car carry BMW labels not Land Rover which led me to a BMW control diagram.

    This is what i plan to do anyway.
