Hi Guys
I need to remove the viscous fan to get to the thermostat - penciled in for 2 weeks time. RAVE states that two tools are needed LRT-12-094 and LRT-12-214.
Do I need them? What have you guys used? Any one in BNE have them? Anyone know where to get them at a reasonable cost?
Many thanks

Big spanner - 32mm I think, and a hammer. Easy as (Fraser 130 did it for me...). Having said that I did modify the fan shroud a bit... I cut the bit at the top off so you can get a spanner on it. Easier than waiting for some special tools to arrive.
Once the fans gone, the thermostat isn't that hard to do - it's just a bit fiddly. I had to pull mine apart to repair it - I managed to bust a bit getting the hoses off when pulling the head off. Some JB weld sorted it out...![]()

sure did, that's where I first read about the EGR thermo. Interesting comments on how a few of the guys have removed the fan and left it off, I assume relying on the front electric fan.
What does the hammer do Gav? I assume the the two spanners are used so one turns and the other holds? How do you get it with a spanner and hammer?
I will happily make my own out of flat bar if I can find out how big the openning need to be. So any clues??
Oh yeah, after inspection on the weekend, the EGR cooler and it's pipes are going, absolutly no need to have them there, and it rids the system of a couple of failure points.

Only used 1 spanner and gave it a wack with the hammer - didn't need to try and get 2 spanners on there. Only took one hit and it unwound by hand.

Gav is spot on, is indeed a 32mm spanner
Cheers,

Info for all.
It is a 32mm on both sides as the boys report - the fan nut and the pulley. To hold the pulley it needs to be a thin spanner, I got one off ebay for $26 delivered from melbourne.
The hammer trick did not work for me. BUT if you have a thin spanner (cut out of plate) you can get a big shifter on the fan nut, there is space. Even with the two spanners we still couldn't move it.
But with this combo (shifter and the laser cut spanner) you can fit a tube over both of them - can't do that with a open end / ring combo. With a pair of 4 foot tubes it required very little effort to crack the nut - easy. Mine was a little rusty.
Glad I ordered a thin spanner - it has to come off again for the air con...
