Welcome to the forum.. What year (or budget) did you have in mind. The early ones differ a bit from the later models.
Hi Guys/Girls
I'm looking at getting a RR Vogue v8 petrol, just wondering if there is anything that i need to be aware of? what are the common faults with these cars?
i have been doing some reading on this forum and by the sounds of it i will be getting allot of car for my money, i was an avid "cruiser" man i must admit but when i jumped into my mate's range rover i instantly fell in love with it.
any pointers would be greatly appreciated
Regards
Mr T

i'm looking into 03-05 models, budget it not massive as we have the missus ssv wagon as well but up to about 25k i have been told i'm "aloud" to spend. the car will be used to as a daily driver for the most part with occasional beach work, also trips away fishing with the guys (easy dirt roads possible rough tracks but nothing "hardcore"). when you compare the rr with a cruiser there is just no comparison in my mind.![]()
Yeah, your budget is about right. Look for something that has a good service history. Depending on KM, there are a few things that should have been done, or would need doing soon. Things like front air springs, compressor and even a transmission rebuild may have been done. The trans in the V8 doesn't suffer as badly as the diesel variant, but certainly isn't without issues. The V8's cooling system gets a hard time and is prone to issues, so have that checked thoroughly too. These things chew batteries, so if it's more than a few years old it's probably on borrowed time.
Hope that doesn't put you off - they are a great car.![]()

Thanks bacicat,
things like that wont put me off as i'm a mechanic by trade (thankfully not my job anymore haha), i wouldn't say any vehicle is without its own set of quirks not even the "unbreakable" landcruiser's. Most of the above mentioned "problems" are all pretty simple fix's from the reading i have been doing except for the trans that's a pretty serious repair job, when you say the cooling system gets a hard time and prone to issues what exactly is the issue with it? poor quality radiator? thermostat issues?. As for the battery's they are only designed to last two years anyways so anymore that that is just borrowed time. i'm looking for something in the sub 170k range preferably a vogue, pretty much got my heart set on a RR so it would take some serious convincing to make me change my mind![]()
Here's one but a few more Km's than you would like.

Good on you.. You won't regret it (most of the time)...
. The coolant system in the V8's runs at very high pressure, so needs to be maintained in tip top order - hoses, coolant, thermostat, etc otherwise they can have a tendency to spit the dummy so to speak and drop their coolant.

Not sure Gav but there a lot cheaper than when I bought mine
Here's another
Range Rover Vogue 2004 Well Maintained MAY Suit Sport X5 ML | eBay
ahh ok well i will make sure i keep on top of that cooling system then when i get one, i normally change out all the oils, coolant and hoses, thermostat and water pump when i purchase a new car just a peace of mind thing on my behalf.
as for the diesels, what are they like apposed to the v8's? obviously you don't get as much performance out of them power wise. i haven't really contemplated the diesels are they worth a look?
