Lightbulb Lets see who knows parts!

Well after a couple of weeks enduring a nasty grumble, We dropped the '05 TD6 into our mechanic amid fears of a front diff failure.

Thank god it was only a front left wheel bearing!

Anyone want to hazard a guess at how much one of these sets you back? I nearly fell over! And this isn't even from a dealer!

One could only dream!!! The whole hub/bearing needed replacing as there was unacceptable play to replace only the failed bearing itself.... apparently

Price is higher, for only the front left

I'd imagine at least $1,000 if for the whole hub.

A speedy sleeve may be cheaper than a new stub axle.

Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.

Wheel bearing £21, hub £80 (genuine parts - there are some cheaper bearings out there). Landed here around $250AU, so paying for one here from a local supplier I'd say around double that.

Yes - that would have been a worry. I don't think you got ripped off though - the hubs are known to fret where the bearing sits in some cases. Did they give you the old parts back?

New part is being fitted today, couldn't get one to his shop yesterday so it came this morning. I'll ask him to keep the old part when I next speak to him. The guy is an old friend so I'm sure he wouldn't be making things up too much.... I hope
